I'm a Black/Indigenous/Irish and gender queer game designer, storyteller, artist, dancer, author, and performer who believes in the power of play and story as fundamental, powerful medicines which shape our sense of self, relationships, and our connection to the cosmos. As a multidisciplinary artist, creative, and abuse survivor and I have learned to use my creative processes to move through my own healing journey. I have worked for over 10 years in community work, on the street, working with youth and families and helping them to find tools to use to right themselves in the world.
I'm also a veteran of the games industry who initially began connecting with games as simple digital entertainment products but looked deeper and found ritual and medicine hidden inside the allowances of play and fantasy and found ways to show others how to tap into that. I'm a professor of game design at DePaul University's School of Design where I've taught game-like learning to high school teachers to help them connect students to the learning; provided game making workshops for BIPOC community groups to help them find ways to connect each other to language and culture and history, used play and technology with inner-city youth to help them find ways to express themselves and find their voice; and done movement workshops to help people move old stories out of their bodies and build new relationships with them.
I believe the path to healing is all about balance and pacing. Most importantly it's about taking the time to audit where you're at, what tools you've developed, and what ways resonate as the right ways to move to bring you into balance with your self, find your joy, and build a nourishing support system.
I will walk alongside you like a loving relative who wants to see you become the best you ever.
